Huskies Earn Eighth-Straight Top-20 At NCAAs
November 22, 2025 | Cross Country
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Outperforming their national ranking by eight spots today, the Husky women's cross country team pulled out an eighth consecutive top-20 finish at the NCAA Championships, running to 19th-place overall at the Gans Creek Championship Course. Washington was led by a 58th-place finish by Mia Cochran and a 65th-place finish from Chloe Foerster.
The Dawgs were ranked 27th coming into the meet but easily outperformed that today. Head Coach Maurica Powell has coached the Huskies into the top-20 in all eight of her seasons at the helm.
Washington scored 472 points. The Dawgs were very close to jumping up even higher in the top-20. Utah in 17th and Northwestern in 18th were just seven, and three, points ahead of UW. The Huskies were just 18 points out of 14th-place, which went to Georgetown with 454. Conversely, UW had a 19-point gap behind them to 20th-place Iowa State.
Cochran, in her first NCAA Cross Country Championships as a Dawg, led the team in 58th overall, covering the 6,000-meters in 19-minutes, 38-seconds. Foerster was just two seconds behind in 65th-place.
Abby DeVeau, the breakout star this year for the Dawgs who joined the team after playing club rugby for three years, was in the top-100 in her NCAA debut. She was near the back early in the race but passed 34 runners from 1k to 2k, then 52 runners over the next 2k, and pushed up into the top-100 over the final 2k to finish 96th in a time of 19:56.
Seniors Sam Tran and Maeve Stiles capped their cross country careers and capped the Husky scoring. Tran was 167th overall in 20:23, and Stiles finished 190th overall in 20:28. Jenica Swartz finished 207th in her NCAA debut and Josephine Welin also made her NCAA debut, placing 249th overall.
Washington will next turn its attention to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field season, where the women made history with a fourth-place finish last year. The first home meet in the Dempsey is scheduled for Jan. 16-17.
