
Matsuda Tabbed Big Ten Player Of The Week

SEATTLE – Erika Matsuda has been named the Big Ten Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
This past weekend at the ITA West Sectional Championships, Matsuda qualified for the NCAA Tournament in both singles and doubles with a 6-0 record with three wins over ranked opponents.
It is the first conference weekly honor of Matsuda's career.
In singles, Matsuda opened the Round of 32 with a win over #52 Emilija Tverijonaita (Arizona State) in three sets, 7-5, 1-6, 6-4. She followed on Saturday with a three-set win over Maxine Murphy (Washington State). Matsuda clinched her spot in the NCAA Championship with a win over #125 Greta Greco Lucchina (Cal) in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Alongside doubles partner, Carina Syrtveit, the pair has a win over #58 Eva Alvarez Sande/Maxine Murphy (Washington State), 6-3, 6-1, in the Round of 16 on their way to an undefeated weekend. The doubles team did not drop a set over their three matches.
Matsuda also picked up her 100th career win over the weekend.
The Huskies will have five representatives making the trip to Orlando, Fla. – Matsuda, Syrtveit, Marie Weissheim, Alexia Jacobs and Reece Carter. Washington is one of six programs in the nation to send five or more to the NCAA Individual Championships.
