UW Athletics To Host October Cancer Awareness Events Across Fall Sports
October 02, 2025 | Football, General, Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Volleyball
SEATTLE -- In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and broader cancer awareness initiatives, University of Washington Athletics will host a series of athletic events throughout the month of October focusing on cancer awareness and fundraising, celebrating survivors, honoring lives lost to the disease, and recognizing medical professionals changing lives in the space.
Fundraising Focus
Throughout the month of October and at each affiliated athletic event, fans are encouraged to donate toward the transformational work being done right here on campus by The Cancer Vaccine Institute through UW Medicine.
The Cancer Vaccine Institute (CVI) at the University of Washington is a pioneering research center dedicated to harnessing the power of the immune system to prevent, treat, and stop the recurrence of cancer. Bringing discovery, clinical trials, and patient care together under one roof, CVI focuses on vaccines for breast, ovarian, colon, lung, bladder, and prostate cancers — the diseases responsible for nearly half of all cancer deaths. With more than 30 clinical trials completed and a track record of breakthrough discoveries, CVI's mission is clear: create safe, effective cancer vaccines and change the future of cancer care.
