Suliafu Reels In Second Big Ten Defensive Player Of The Week Honor Of The Season
October 14, 2025 | Women's Soccer
ROSEMONT, Ill. – For the second time in 2025, Washington senior center back Kolo Suliafu has been named the Co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, announced Tuesday by the league office.
Suliafu also pulled in the weekly award for Week 5 after leading the Huskies to a 1-0 win at No. 15 USC on Sept. 11.
The Ontario, California, native earned the nod after a pair of stellar defensive showings that led the Dawgs to a six-point week on the road with wins over Penn State and No. 22 Ohio State.
Suliafu's marquee moment came early in Thursday's match in State College, Pennsylvania, clearing Aubrey Kulpa's shot off the line in the eighth minute. From there, the Huskies locked down PSU, joining Virginia as the only teams to hold the Nittany Lions scoreless this season, securing a 1-0 win.
Three days later, Suliafu and her defensive cohort took their show to Columbus, Ohio, holding the Buckeyes to a season-low six shots en route to a 1-0 Husky victory. It was the ninth time this season Washington has held its opponent to six or fewer shot attempts.
Suliafu and the Huskies return home this week for a pair of home contests, hosting Minnesota Thursday at 8:00 p.m. PT for the team's Shut Out Cancer Match before facing Wisconsin Sunday at 1:00 p.m. on Senior Day on Montlake. Both matches will air to a national audience on the Big Ten Network.
