
Washington Sweeps Portland In Women’s Tennis Home Opener

SEATTLE – The Washington women's tennis team (2-1) secured victories across all courts Wednesday afternoon in its first home match of 2025, defeating Portland 7-0 inside Nordstrom Tennis Center.
Doubles play finished quickly as Catherine Gagnon and McKenna Koenig jumped out early and stayed up on court three, defeating Portland's Flores/Galatescu 6-1.
The 37th-ranked Alexia Jacobs and Reece Carter garnered a 6-3 win on the top doubles courts.
The Huskies continued the onslaught into singles play, with Washington completing the clean sweep across all six courts.
Jacobs didn't give up a single game, defeating Portland's Marquart 6-0, 6-0 on court three and finishing first for UW.
Koenig and Sophie Luescher's wins came shortly after, with Luescher clinching the match on court five going 6-0 in her second set.
Erika Matsuda picked up her first win on Washington's top court 6-2, 6-2. Carter slid to a 6-1 first set but battled in the second before coming way with a 7-5 final set.
Carina Syrtveit completed the singles sweep for the Huskies, defeating UP's Nadine Arbaizar Martinez 6-4, 7-6 on court six.
The Dawgs will cross the state for a matchup with Gonzaga on Sunday, Feb. 9 before returning home for back-to-back home matches with Washington State and Arizona State.
