Smith, Lu In Top-10 After 36 Holes At Chambers Bay

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. – The Washington women's golf team opened the 2024-25 season with the first two rounds of the Leadership and Golf Invitational Monday at Chambers Bay. The Huskies will head into Tuesday's third and final round in eighth place overall, led by sophomores Mads Smith and Vivian Lu, who each finished Monday in the top 10.
Smith, celebrating her birthday Monday, posted back-to-back rounds under par, with a 3-under 69 in the first and a 2-under 70 in the second. At 5-under overall, she was tied for fourth place at the end of Monday's play, four back of the leader.
Lu followed a 1-under 71 in the first round with a 3-under 69 in the second, tying her for eighth place at 4-under through 36 holes.
Freshman Amber Li, from Newport High in Bellevue, was the next lowest Husky, at 4-over par through two rounds. She carded a 1-over 73 in the first and a 3-over 75 in the second. She's tied for 31st place, along with teammate Kennedy Knox, who turned in a 2-under 70 in the first round.
Senior Jamie Hsieh is one stroke back at 5-over par.
The tournament, co-hosted by UW and Seattle University, continues Tuesday with the third and final round.
