Huskies, Cowgirls Battle To Scoreless Draw
August 15, 2024 | Women's Soccer
SEATTLE – Kicking off the 2024 season, Washington was forced to settle for a 0-0 draw Thursday night in a hard fought battle with Wyoming at Husky Soccer Stadium.
The two sides were dead even on shots for the night at 15 apiece, while Husky keeper Olivia Juarez was called upon for six saves.
The Huskies' best chance to score on the night came less than two minutes in, when Kalea Eichenberger released Tatum Thomason with a perfectly weighted through ball. 1-on-1 with the keeper, Thomason's shot was too near the keeper and was saved.
In the 29th minute, Ioanna Papatheodorou earned a scoring opportunity for the Dawgs, drawing a foul just outside the top of the 18. True freshman Andrea Leyva took the ball for the free kick and tested the keeper, forcing a save out of the top-left corner.
From there, both sides struggled to carve out a clear-cut chance, heading into the break scoreless.
Shortly after the restart, Juarez came through when tested for the first time, reaching high to deny Jazi Barela in the 53rd minute.
Both sides continued to grind in search of the opener but couldn't break through, ending the night scoreless.
