June 10, 2024 | Softball
SEATTLE โ Washington softball head coach Heather Tarr rounds out her coaching staff with assistant coach Brad Kilpatrick (pitching), joining Lance Glasoe and Jenn Salling. Courtney Gano will serve as Chief of Staff & Video Analysis Coordinator.
ย
Kilpatrick comes to Seattle from the University of Florida where he served as a student manager for two seasons working primarily with the pitchers.
ย
"As we move into our new conference, I am excited to add Coach Brad into ourย existing staff," Tarr said. "Our pitchers will benefit tremendously from what Brad has to offer. His time thus far as a player, for USA Softball, his background coming from Australia and his recent experience at the University of Florida under Coach Walton are all things that will benefit us as a program.
ย
"Brad's connections across the country and internationally will also help us on the recruiting scene, Tarr added. "An additional benefit is Brads ability to pitch live to our hitters which will in turn be an asset to our offense. We can't wait to see how good we can get in this new era of Husky softball."
ย
This past season, the Gators posted a 2.93 ERA and advanced to the semifinals at the Women's College World Series. Florida finished the season with a record of 54-15 and 17-7 in conference action while winning the SEC Tournament as the second-overall seed.
ย
"I am really excited about Brad Kilpatrick joining The University of Washington Softball family," Florida softball head coach Tim Walton said. "Brad is an outstanding softball mind and is going to do great things as a pitching coach. In all my years of coaching I've never seen someone pitch a ball like Brad. The Husky program is going to love having Coach Kilpatrick developing future All-Americans!"
ย
He represented Team USA at the WBSC Men's Softball World Championship, earning a bronze medal in 2022 and U18 Team Australia's gold medal victory in 2018. At the 2022 Pan American Championship, Kilpatrick held a 3.46 ERA with 29 strikeouts in 30.1 innings pitched. In the 2022 World Championship, he tossed a complete game shutout in the bronze medal game over defending champions, Argentina.
ย
Kilpatrick earned his bachelor's degree in sports management from Florida. He also earned his bachelor's in sports business leadership from Australian College of Physical Education in Sydney, Australia.
ย
Gano moves into the Chief of Staff & Video Analysis Coordinator after serving as an assistant coach last season. She helped in the development of the defense which posted the fourth-best fielding percentage in the nation.
ย
"Courtney slides into the role of Chief of Staff - which includes the player development role," Tarr said. "Her time within the program as a player, a coach and in 2023 serving in a scouting and player development role will allow us to continue to recruit the best and develop our talent."
ย
During her time as a player, Gano concluded her career with a .296 average with 24 home runs โ including 18 during her junior season โ and 102 RBI. She saw time all around the field, making starts at first base, third base, shortstop and catcher during her four years as a Husky. Gano was named a Pac-12 Second Team selection and NFCA All-Region Third Team honoree in 2015.
ย
Gano retired last season from her professional career after time with Athletes Unlimited, with Club Forlì in Italy and the Chicago Bandits in the National Pro Fastpitch league.
