No. 26 Women’s Tennis Prepped For Last Weekend On Montlake

SEATTLE – No. 26 Washington will conclude the 2023-24 home schedule with two matches this weekend against two top-10 opponents in No. 9 California and No. 3 Stanford.
This weekend of competition marks the highest ranked opponents the Huskies have seen this season.
Friday's match against California will also serve as the Dawg Pack Day, and students will have free pizza at the match.
Fans are encouraged to stick around after the match for an autograph session with the team.
The Huskies (15-7, 4-3 Pac-12) split the weekend in the desert as they lost 4-0 to Arizona State and then bounced back for a 4-0 victory over Arizona.
Sunday's match with Stanford will recognize the group's four seniors: Dariya Detkovskaya, Sarah-Maude Fortin, Astrid Olsen and Melissa Sakar.
Make sure to make your way to campus 30 minutes before the match kicks off at noon on Sunday for the pre-meet senior recognition ceremony.
Three of four seniors transferred to Washington after spending multiple years at another institution, with Fortin being the sole senior to have spent four years in a Washington uniform.
Detkovskaya spent three seasons at Oklahoma State and one season at San Diego State; Olsen was previously at Pepperdine and Sakar completed her undergrad at Columbia.

"Being at UW was something I had never thought of, but I'm so glad I ended up here. I wouldn't change this year for anything. It's been so incredible that it almost doesn't feel real. Every time I'm on the court I'm working not only for myself but for this great group of people. I'm very grateful to finish my last year here."
Melissa Sakar
"My senior year has been the best. The team meshes really well together, and we have made so many memories in a short amount of time. Overall, I feel extremely grateful to have two extra years of eligibility and experience collegiate tennis, especially as a Husky, just a little bit longer."
Astrid Olsen
"Coming to the U.S. from far away and ending up in this place, UW, is the best thing that has ever happened to me. I have met so many incredible humans that have inspired me and helped me to grow more and more into myself. Forever grateful."
HOW WE MEASURE UP
The Huskies have stayed consistently in the 20s in the ITA weekly rankings, this week set at No. 26.
Alexia Jacobs is the sole Husky in the singles rankings this week at No. 88. Jacobs and Astrid Olsen are notched at No. 69 in the doubles rankings along with Melissa Sakar and Catherine Gagnon at No. 78.
The only two losses for the Huskies in the Pac-12 so far this season have come at the hands of UCLA and USC, the top two teams in the conference standings. California and Stanford are currently right behind at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively.
THE COMPETITION – NO. 9 CALIFORNIA
The Golden Bears (14-4, 6-1 Pac-12) are recently coming off of a 4-3 win over 3rd-ranked Pepperdine and a 6-1 win over Oregon last weekend.
Cal has a pair in the doubles rankings with Hannah Viller Moeller and Mao Mushika at No. 22.
Viller Moeller is also ranked in singles at No. 39, along with teammate Katja Wiersholm (No. 42), Valentine Ivanov (No. 46) and Jessica Alsola (No. 72)
THE COMPETITION – NO. 3 STANFORD
Stanford (16-2, 5-1 Pac-12) is currently 5-1 in conference action with its only loss coming at the hands of a 4-3 dual with UCLA. The Cardinal have won nine of their last 10 matches.
The Cardinal's Connie Ma is the highest ranked singles player at No. 10, followed by Alexandra Yepifanova at No. 24 and Angelica Blake at No. 35.
Stanford's Ma and Yepifanova are No. 32 nationally in doubles.
