WALNUT, Calif. – Jami Schlueter and Bruno Comin Pescador both navigated the first half of their first decathlon competition of the outdoor season today at the Mt. SAC Relays. The two standouts are the opening act for a big weekend for the Huskies at Hilmer-Lodge Stadium, as a few more Dawgs join the mix on Thursday, then a large group will start competition on Friday and Saturday.
Schlueter had the best day one of his decathlon career, as he posted 4,110 points with four personal-bests and one collegiate-best out of the five events. He opened with a time of 10.80 in the 100-meters, a wind-legal career-best. Schlueter then had a long jump PR of 23-7 ½ and followed that with the best shot put of his career at 47-3 ¾. He got a third-attempt clearance in the high jump at 6-3 ½, his best as a Dawg, and then closed with a 400-meters PR of 49.10.
Comin Pescador opened with a 10.99 run in the 100-meters and then long jumped 22-3 ½. He went 45-2 ½ in the shot put followed by a 6-3 ½ make in the high jump. He then closed the 400-meters in 49.33. Comin Pescador limited his jumps a bit today, taking only two of three attempts in the long jump, and 6-3 ½ was the only bar he attempted in the high jump, stopping after making that opener.
In addition to the final decathlon day on Thursday, the Huskies will have seven javelin throwers in action.
