First 197 Of The Year Comes In Quad Win For GymDawgs
March 01, 2024 | Gymnastics
BOISE, Idaho -- The GymDawgs stayed in front after each and every rotation Friday night, notching their season-best on three events, as they registered a 197.200 at ExtraMile Arena.
Friday night marked the first time this season the Huskies have scored above a 49 on all four events – and the first 197+ of the year.
The Huskies' 197.200 put them in first ahead of host Boise State's 196.825, No. 16 Minnesota's 196.425 and UC Davis' 195.425.
Washington started out the competition with a 49.475 on floor, a number the Huskies have only notched twice since the 2020 season. The last was at home against Arizona State in the 2023 season – when the GymDawgs scored a season-best 197.250.
Five gymnasts scored a 9.850 or higher tonight on the dance floor, highlighted by all-arounder Skylar Killough-Wilhelm who tied her career-high 9.950 and tied for first on the event.
Emily Innes also tied her career-high 9.925 on floor, which she shortly followed up with a 9.875 on vault to match her career-best.
Caitlin McWilliams notched the best floor routine of her career with a 9.875 to go along with Lana Navarro's season-best 9.875.
The purple reign continued for the GymDawgs as they followed up their season-best floor score with a dominant 49.225 on vault, an event they have struggled to consistently score above a 49 on this season.
Innes' and Navarro's 9.875s on the event led the Huskies, who tapped into their highest vault score of 2024. Innes and Navarro tied for third overall on the event.
For the fourth time this season, Washington earned a 49.250 on bars led by Killough-Wilhelm who matched her season-best 9.900 (third overall). The senior earned a 39.550 all-around score (second overall on the meet), which was just shy of her career-best and the second highest of the year for Killough-Wilhelm.
Oppegard matched her season-best 9.850 (fifth overall) and Lilly Tubbs notched a 9.875 (fourth overall) in the third and fifth spot on bars, respectively.
The Huskies didn't let up when it came down to the final rotation, as they held on to a lead until the very end.
Four 9.850+ scores gave the GymDawgs a 49.250 on beam and secured their first win of the 2024 season. Killough-Wilhelm's and Navarro's 9.875s tied for second on beam for the night.
