Fifth-Ranked Huskies Hit Hawaii For Amer Ari
February 07, 2024 | Men's Golf
WAIMEA, Hawaii โ Facing one of the deepest fields of the season in college golf, No. 5 Washington will test its metle while playing in paradise, competing Feb. 8-10 in the Amer Ari at Mauna Lani Resort Golf Club's North Course.
ย
The Huskies are coming off of a solid showing at the Southwestern Invitational the previous week, finishing strong at six-under in the final round, the low round of the day, to earn a fifth-place finish.
ย
Taehoon Song led the way for the Dawgs, firing a final-round 64 to earn a runner-up finish, just a single shot back of the lead. It was the third round of 65 or under for the senior from South Korea.
ย
With a stacked field at the North Course, UW will need to be on its game to post another successful weekend.
ย
Washington is one of nine participating teams ranked inside the top-25 of the Clippd Men's Collegiate Golf Rankings, joining, No. 1 Auburn, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 7 Arizona State, No. 11 Florida State, No. 12 Georgia Tech, No. 16 Texas, No. 18 Oregon and No. 24 Texas Tech.
"The guys are looking good in practice," head coach Alan Murray said. "You can see the sharpness returning and we look better each day since the beginning of our practice and tournament schedule this springย
This tournament is on a new course for us and it's a very strong field so it presents a great challenge and real opportunity for the guys to make a statement about how we shape up against the best teams in the country."
ย
Thursday's first round will commence at 9:30 a.m. PT with a shotgun start. Set at par-72 and 6,913 yards, Washington will tee off on the North Course from holes No. 8, 9 and 10.
"There will be some birdies this week but anything crooked can find the lava and when playing in the wind that Hawaii always has there can be a feast or famine element to it," Murray said. "Our guys just need to play their own games and be smart about what they are doing. It is a course we have the ability to play well on as we are good ball strikers but adjusting to the grainier greens will be the challenge this week for most of the teams."
ย
Washington's lineup for the Amer Ari is as follows:
ย
1. Petr Hruby
2. Taehoon Song
3. Teddy Lin
4. Finn Koelle
5. Bo Peng
ย
Individual โ Drew Warford
"We are looking forward to the challenge and excited to get started tomorrow," Murray said.
