
Huskies Begin Clearwater Invitational 2-0

The Huskies began the day with an 8-1 win over No. 18 Kentucky before a 12-4 victory over Minnesota. UW is now 5-1 on the season.

Sydney Stewart got things going in the second with her first home run of the season. Jillian Celis followed with a home run of her own in the third to give the Huskies a two-run lead.

Kentucky made it a one run game on a double in the bottom of the third.
The Huskies brought the bats alive in the fifth when Brooke Nelson led off with a single. Fiedler followed with a double and Brooklyn Carter brought in Nelson on a single to make it a two-run game again. Washington plated five more runs in the inning highlighted by a two-run triple from Avery Hobson to make it 8-1.
The Wildcats forced back-to-back walks to start the bottom of the fifth, but Ruby Meylan and the Huskies' defense were able to get out of the jam with no runs scored.
Nelson got the start in the circle and tossed two scoreless innings with a pair of walks and a strikeout. Meylan (2-1) came in and picked up her second win of the year after tossing five innings in relief and struck out six Wildcats.
#5 WASHINGTON 12, MINNESOTA 4
Olivia Johnson led the way with a 3-for-4 outing with four RBI and a walk. Jillian Celis, Rylee Holtorf, Alana Johnson and Avery Hobson recorded multiple hits in the games. Brooke Nelson recorded three RBI.
Minnesota brought across the first run of the game in the second to take a 1-0 lead.
The Huskies responded in the third, plating five in the top half of the inning highlighted by a double from Nelson to drive in two runs.
The Golden Gophers add a run in the bottom of the inning, cutting the lead to three, 5-2.
Washington added a pair of runs on Olivia Johnson's double. Minnesota would add two runs, cutting the lead to 7-4.

The Huskies were able to capitalize on a couple of Minnesota errors to plate five more runs in the final three frames to move to 5-1 on the season with a 12-4 win.
Sidne Peters got her first start in the circle and threw three innings with two strikeouts before Lindsay Lopez (2-0) came in and picked up her second win with one earned run allowed in the final four frames.
The 12 runs scored in the games marks the first time this season - and first since the Huskies faced Northern Colorado in the Regional - that they elapsed double-digit runs.
Washington will open Saturday at the Clearwater Invitational against Wisconsin at 7 a.m. PT followed by another Top 25 matchup against No. 12 LSU at 2 p.m. PT. Both games will air on ESPN+.
