
Four Run Third Lifts UW Past Wisconsin

CLEARWATER, Fla. – No. 5 Washington secured its fourth win in a row with a 9-1 five inning victory over Wisconsin on Saturday afternoon at Eddie C. Moore Softball Complex on day two of the Shriners Children's Clearwater Invitational Presented by EvoShield.
The Huskies were scheduled to play No. 12 LSU later in the day, but the game was canceled due to weather. Washington sits at 6-1 on the season.
Ruby Meylan threw her second complete game to move her record to 3-1. Meylan struck out seven, her second game in a row and third this season with six or more strikeouts.
With runners at the corners, Alana Johnson drove in the first run of the game on an infield single to take a 1-0 lead.
Wisconsin tied the game in the second on a leadoff home run.
Washington bounced back with a pair of runs in the second. A walk to Brooke Nelson and singles by Kinsey Fiedler and Brooklyn Carter loaded the bases with one out. A wild pitch scored Nelson. Jillian Celis grounded out to bring in the second run.
The Huskies continued to add to their lead in the third, plating four runs. With two on, Avery Hobson reached on an error that allowed Sydney Stewart to score. Runners at the corners, Fiedler hit a single up the middle to bring in two runs. Carter followed with a sac bunt to drive in the fourth run.
In the fifth, Fiedler led off with a bunt single and advanced to third on a couple of wild pitches. She was brought in on a Celis double. Rylee Holtorf drove in the game-winning run on single out to left field.
Washington will play one final game in Clearwater on Sunday at 6:30 a.m. PT against North Carolina. The game will air on ACC Network.
