
Huskies Drop A Close One 4-3 To No. 16 USC

SEATTLE – The No. 21 Huskies (6-2) came down the wire with the 16th-ranked USC Trojans Saturday night after a nearly three-hour match at Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Trojans snagged the win 4-3 to improve to 5-2.
Washington will face Cal Sunday at 6:30 p.m. at the NTC. USC will take on Pepperdine Sunday afternoon at Seattle Tennis Club.
Five of six USC singles players were ranked heading into the weekend, with Washington snagging singles wins on the top two courts. Erika Matsuda defeated the Trojans' No. 52 Han in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 just after Alexia Jacobs took down No. 20 Charney, 6-2, 6-4.
The top two singles wins narrowed the USC lead to 3-2, until Dariya Detkovskaya tied things up with a thrilling win on court 6, 7-6, 6-4.
The pressure was on Astrid Olsen on court 3, who clawed her way through a first set that lasted 1.5 hours but ultimately fell 7-6. The final set finished 6-2 to USC's No. 90 Cheong to clinch the match for the Trojans.
