Huskies Add Reina, Swartz To '25-26 Signing Class
December 19, 2024 | Track & Field
SEATTLE – Washington track and field has started to assemble another impressive recruiting class, with twelve athletes signing Big Ten Aid Agreements for the 2025-26 season. As of August the class features six men and six women, with six incoming freshmen and six transfers.
Transferring in next fall will be Penn pole vault All-American Jimmy Rhoads, and sprinter Alex Rhodes from University of Puget Sound, who won the 2025 NCAA D-III 400-meter title. Also transferring are UConn All-American distance standout Chloe Thomas, who was ninth at the 2024 NCAA Cross Country Championships, and Tyler Bilyard, an Englishman from the University of Birmingham with a 3:52 mile PR.
In August, two more transfers joined the Dawgs, as Reuben Reina committed to UW from Arkansas, and Jenica Swartz came down from Canada where she competed at the University of Saskatchewan. Reina was the 2025 SEC Indoor Mile Champion with a PR of 3:53.95, and he made the NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Championship semifinals in 2025. Swartz is coming off a breakthrough summer where she slashed her PR in the 800-meters by multiple seconds, culminating in a third-place finish at the Canadian Outdoor Championships on Aug. 3 in 2:02.46.
Four women's prep commits include pole vault extraordinaire Veronica Vacca (Plymouth Meeting, Pa.), triple jump state champ Addison Kelly (Tacoma, Wash.), and two international mid-distance talents in Cleo Richardson (Melbourne, Australia) and Chloe Symon (Vancouver, B.C.).
The first two freshman men's commits are two of the top distance runners in the nation, both hailing form the PNW. Josiah Tostenson from Central Point, Ore. and Owen Powell from Mercer Island, Wash. are set to be Dawgs. Powell is the son of UW coaches Andy and Maurica Powell, and is already a five-time Washington state champ. Both Powell and Tostenson went well under the 4-minute-mile mark during the 2025 indoor track season.
