November 21, 2024 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE – Jadon Bowton saved three consecutive penalty kicks to send Washington to the second round of the NCAA Tournament following a 3-0 shootout over Seattle U on Thursday night at Husky Soccer Stadium.
With his eighth shutout of the season, Bowton moves into a tie for seventh in a single season at UW.
Seattle U came out strong with nine shots in the first 45 minutes. The Redhawks ended up forcing 18 shots (six on goal) to Washington's 11 (three on goal). The Husky defense and Bowton's six saves kept the Dawgs in it.
After 90 minutes of regulation, teams need extra time to sort out the winner.
Two 10-minute overtime periods were not enough, and match moved on to a shootout; the second for the Huskies in the last three matches.
Charlie Kosakoff, Chris Meyers and Egor Akulov netted their kicks to keep the Huskies dancing in the tournament.
Washington will face 12-seed SMU on Sunday in Dallas, Texas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. PT/6 p.m. CT.
