UW Set To Host Husky Invitational At Gold Mountain
September 17, 2023 | Men's Golf
BREMERTON, Wash. – After making its mark with a third-place finish in a stacked field at the Sahalee Players Championship, Washington men's golf remains in its home base, hosting the Husky Invitational at Gold Mountain Golf Club Sept. 18-19.
"We are always excited to get back to Gold Mountain and play the Husky Invitational," head coach Alan Murray said. "This is an event our guys love and always great playing in front of our fans."
The Dawgs impressed in Sammamish with a third round charge up the leaderboard, placing three Huskies in the top-10 at a tournament for the first time since the Oregon State Invitational in 2021.
Teddy Lin was the Huskies' highest finisher in fourth, with Petr Hruby close behind in a tie for fifth and Bo Peng tying for 10th in a leaderboard crowded with elite talent.
"Coming off the back of a good performance at the Sahalee Players Championship our guys are playing nicely," Murray said. "Gold Mountain will also be very challenging but presents some more opportunities than Sahalee did. It's another championship course against a strong field that will give our guys a good indication of where their games are at and where we stand as a team."
Much like SPC, the Husky Invitational will feature a bevy of the nation's best talent, including several of the top teams the West Coast has to offer. Three of the 14 teams on display at Gold Mountain are ranked in Golfweek's Preseason Rankings, including No. 7 Oklahoma, No. 16 Oregon and No. 24 Cal.
"We have a really strong field this year and it will be a good test for our guys," Murray said.
The Husky Invitational will be played on Gold Mountain's Olympic Course, featuring a par 72 course at 7,055 yards. As in years past, a separate Husky Individual will take place on the Cascade Course, featuring a par 71 course at 7,115 yards.
36 continuous holes will be played on both courses on Monday, with the third and final round taking place Tuesday morning into the afternoon.
Washington's lineup will return 4-of-5 from its group at the SPC, with true freshman Finn Koelle earning a spot as well. U Dub's lineup for the Husky Invitational, which will feature a play five count four format, is as follows:
1. Teddy Lin
2. Petr Hruby
3. Bo Peng
4. Taehoon Song
5. Finn Koelle
"Teddy, Petr and Bo had excellent weeks at the SPC," Murray said. "Taehoon is looking good in qualifying, and Finn shot a great last round in the qualifier to earn his spot in the lineup so we feel like we have some momentum building."
49 players will compete on the Cascade Course, while eight individuals, including UW's Drew Warford and Justin Hopkins, will compete on the Olympic Course.
"We will also have Drew and Justin competing on the Olympic Course so that ensures we have tournament competition throughout our squad," Murray said.
