SEATTLE – No. 9 Washington continues Pac-12 play as they hit the road to face Oregon State in Corvallis for a three-game series beginning on Friday. The Huskies are 29-8 on the season with a 10-5 record in the Pac-12.

30 YEARS OF WASHINGTON SOFTBALL
2023 marks the 30th anniversary of Washington softball. The Huskies' first year as a program was in 1993. Head coach Heather Tarr has been a part of 24 of 30 seasons in the Purple and Gold as a player, manager and coach.
THE LAST TIME OUT
The Huskies had their second conference series sweep of the season, this time against Cal. Over the three games, UW scored 32 runs while allowing 13 Cal runs. Following the weekend, Sami Reynolds was named Pac-12 Player of the Week for the fourth time in her career. Reynolds hit .625/.750/1.500 with a pair of home runs and seven RBI. With her five career Pac-12 awards, Reynolds holds the most conference weekly awards for a Husky hitter. Only seven others have more weekly awards in their career, all pitchers: Danielle Lawrie (18), Gabbie Plain (14), Taran Alvelo (9), Jennifer Spediacci (9), Eve Gaw (6), Kelley Lynch (5) and Stephanie Burns (5).
NOT ACTING LIKE FRESHMAN
The four freshmen have contributed a lot to the Husky program so far in 2023. Alana Johnson is fourth on the team with 20 RBI and tied for third with seven home runs. Ruby Meylan is nationally ranked in shutouts (6) and strikeouts (143). Meylan's 14 wins this season are ranked 24th nationally and are tied for the most by a freshman along with Texas Tech's Sage Hoover. Brooklyn Carter is a force on the base paths, leading the team and second in the conference with 21 stolen bases. Sydney Stewart has split time at catcher with a .353 average, seven RBI, two doubles, a triple and a home run.
RANKING ROUNDUP
Washington is ranked in the Top 10 in all four polls heading into the weekend. The Huskies are No. 9 in NFCA/USA Today and the 10th-ranked team in the USA Softball/ESPN, D1Softball and Softball America polls. As of April 12, Washington is No. 9 in the RPI. The Huskies have the fifth toughest strength of schedule and are 7-5 this season against Top 25 teams.
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Oregon State sits at 11-23-1 on the season with a 2-12-1 record in Pac-12 action. Kaiea Higa leads the team with a .297 average, while Abby Doerr is the team leader in home runs (8), RBI (23) and doubles (4). Sarah Haendiges leads the pitching staff with a 3.95 ERA in 13 appearances with a 4-4 record. Tarni Stepto leads the team in innings pitched (89.1) and complete games (7) while holding a 4-11 record.
Washington holds the all-time series lead over Oregon State 70-23. The Huskies are currently on a four-game winning streak over the Beavers. In Corvallis, Washington leads 32-14.
INAUGURAL PAC-12 TOURNAMENT
Arizona's Hillenbrand Stadium will serve as the host site for the inaugural Pac-12 Softball Tournament, which is set to make its debut from May 10-13, 2023. The four-day event will begin with a play-in game between the eighth and ninth-place teams in the regular-season standings on Wednesday. That winner will advance to an eight-team, single-elimination bracket with the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship being contested on the following three days. The winner of the Pac-12 Softball Tournament will receive the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Limited tickets are still available by visiting pac12.me/SBTix.
UP NEXT
The Huskies return home for a three-game series against Utah at Husky Softball Stadium on April 21-23. On Sunday of the series, Washington will honor its eight seniors – Jadelyn Allchin, SilentRain Espinoza, Madison Huskey, Baylee Klingler, Kelley Lynch, Brooke Nelson, Sami Reynolds and Megan Vandegrift – postgame.
