Lord Reels in Perfect Game National Pitcher of the Week Nod
March 07, 2023 | Baseball
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – One day after becoming the first Husky to be named Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week in four years, Washington flamethrower Kiefer Lord received an even bigger nod on Tuesday, being named Perfect Game's National Pitcher of the Week.
A Husky has not received a national pitcher of the week nod since the 2018 season, when Joe DeMers was recognized for throwing the first perfect game in the history of Washington baseball.
While Lord didn't go quite that far, he wasn't far off. Pitching in his first game at Husky Ballpark, the Carleton College transfer retired all 18 batters he faced in six perfect frames Saturday against Northern Colorado.
Mixing in a healthy mix of heat and off speed stuff, Lord was completely unhittable. He struck out 10 Bears in the outing, his most in a Washington uniform. The San Carlos, California, native fanned multiple batters in four of his six innings.
Lord has allowed just one run over his last two outings, going six complete frames in both. His 1.59 ERA is tied for the fifth lowest in the Pac-12, while his 26 punchouts is good for a tie for second.
