
#22 Gymnastics Hosts #4 UCLA for 2023 Purple Strong Home Opener

SEATTLEΒ -- The #22 Washington gymnastics team is welcoming top-5 conference opponent UCLA to Alaska Airlines Arena on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. PT. Β

PURPLE STRONGΒ
The theme of Saturday's home opener will be Purple Strong, Purple Out. Fans are encouraged to wear purple to Hed Ed Saturday afternoon in support of the Purple Strong campaign. Β
Purple Strong raises awareness for various causes that are near and dear to the GymDawgs. In years past, Purple Strong has raised awareness and support for cancer, social justice, education, and many more social issues that permeate our society each and every day. Β
The team invites fans to join them in supporting these causes, as well as raise awareness for any others important to themselves. Β
Fans who come out to support the GymDawgs can snag team ribbons, Purple Strong cards, rally towels, Dawg Pack t-shirts, Purple Strong t-shirts, and much more. Β
The Huskies will also stick around after the meet to sign autographs. Β

Washington enters week three of the 2023 season notched at #22 in the Road to Nationals rankings, moving up three spots after an auspicious showing at the Wasatch Classic last weekend in West Valley City, Utah. Β
Washington closed the Wasatch Classic with a 196.550, an afternoon that highlighted a couple career-high performances by the GymDawgs. Β
Kennedi Davis notched a career-best 9.850 on vault, along with Lana Navarro earning a career-high 9.900 on floor. Β
Skylar Killough-Wilhelm earned a 39.300 all-around score for the Huskies, including a 9.850 on vault and 9.875 on bars. Β
THE COMPETITION β UCLAΒ
UCLA enters Saturday's matchup after a 197.850 Wasatch Classic session one victory over UW, Minnesota, and Boise State. The Bruins scored 49.5 or higher on their first three events and earned their highest road score since 2019. Β
UCLA entered the Wasatch ClassicΒ after earning a 197.275 at the Super 16 in Vegas, their highest season-opening score in 18 years. The Bruins finished fourth overall in their session with #1 Oklahoma placing first, then-#4 Michigan earning second, and then-#5 Auburn taking third.Β Β
The Bruins beat Washington last time out in 2022, 197.125-194.300 before ultimately finishing third in the NCAA Raleigh Regional Final at the end of the season with a 197.400.Β

The Huskies hit the road for the third time this monthΒ as they take on #5 Utah at the Huntsman Center on Saturday, Jan. 28. Β
