
GymDawgs Hit the Road for Wasatch Classic in Utah

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH -- The Huskies' gymnastics team hits the road for the second weekend of the season for the Wasatch Classic on Saturday, Jan. 14. Washington will face #6 UCLA, #19 Minnesota, and Boise State in a quad meet at 2 p.m. PT.
The Huskies are coming off a season-opening 195.475 team score at the Super 16 last weekend, the highest score to kick off a season since the 2004 opener. Washington dominated multiple routines, with Amara Cunningham scoring a 9.9 on her floor routine to earn her floor champion for Session 1.
Skylar Killough-Wilhelm was the all-around winner for the first go-around of the inaugural Super 16, earning a 39.325 all-around. She also led the beam with a 9.9 while also taking home a 9.850 on both bars and floor.
Killough-Wilhelm's impactful first meet earned her a #21 national all-around ranking and places her eighth in the conference in the all-around.
THE COMPETITION – UCLA
#6 UCLA is entering the Wasatch Classic after earning a 197.275, their highest season-opening score in 18 years. The Bruins finished fourth overall in their session with #1 Oklahoma placing first, #4 Michigan earning second, and #5 Auburn taking third.
The Bruins beat Washington last time out, 197.125-194.300 before ultimately finishing third in the NCAA Raleigh Regional Final at the end of the 2022 season with a 197.400.
THE COMPETITION – MINNESOTA
#19 Minnesota opened their 2023 season at home on Friday, Dec. 6 with a 196.075 win against Gustavus, Hamline, and Winona State.
The last time Washington matched up with the Gophers was Jan. 13, 2014 in a 195.025-196.350 loss.
THE COMPETITION – BOISE STATE
Boise State is starting out their 2023 season this weekend at the Wasatch Classic. The Huskies last faced Boise State in a tri-meet in 2021 where the Dawgs placed second with a 195.000 flat.
NEXT UP
The Huskies head home to Alaska Airlines Arena for the first time this season on Jan. 21 at 2 p.m. PT against UCLA.
