SEATTLE – University of Washington student-athletes have continued to excel academically, as the Huskies again measured above 980 in the NCAA's latest Academic Progress Rate (APR) release. The data, which was released Tuesday and covers results through the 2020-21 school year, scored the UW at 986, marking the ninth consecutive year Washington has been north of 980. No data was compiled or released for 2019-20, due to the pandemic.
"This latest APR report demonstrates the commitment our student-athletes and coaches have to academic excellence at the UW," said Jennifer Cohen, Director of Athletics. "These accomplishments do not happen without incredible collaboration between our students, coaches and academic support staff, led by Kim Durand. I am so proud of our continued success in the classroom and the lifelong opportunities this presents for our students."
Among the highlights from today's release are that the UW football team's APR score remained atop the Pac-12 Conference, at 993. Additionally, Washington's softball, women's track and field, and women's cross country teams each ranked first (or tied for first) in the conference in their sport. Each of those three programs scored 1,000 (the maximum).
The Husky women's soccer team's score of 999 tied for fourth in the Pac-12, behind three programs that scored 1,000. Additionally, the men's soccer and men's track & field teams ranked No. 2 in the conference, while baseball and women's tennis were each fourth among their league counterparts.
APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance. The APR scores released today reflect academic rates from the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.
