Plain Named Seattle Female Sports Star of the Year

SEATTLE – UW softball's Gabbie Plain was named the 2021 Seattle Sports Star of the Year, the Seattle Sports Commission announced on Thursday night at the 87th annual award show.
The fifth-year senior is the fifth Husky softball player to be named Sports Star of the Year, joining Sis Bates (2019), Ali Aguilar (2017), Danielle Lawrie (2007), and Becky Newbry (1999). The 2009 National Championship squad also earned the award. Since its inception 1994, only 13 other Huskies have been named the Female Sports Star of the Year.
Plain has earned three All-American honors in her career and was named the 2021 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year. She was also one of three finalists for USA Softball National Player of the Year in 2021. Academically, Plain was named the Pac-12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year earlier this season and was named to the CoSIDA All-District Academic Team.
In her career, Plain posted a 1.52 ERA in 837 innings with 1,068 strikeouts. She ranks in the Top 10 in program history in career ERA, appearances, games started, wins, saves, complete games, shutouts, innings pitched, strikeouts and winning percentage.
