Three Run Fifth Lifts Huskies to 3-1 Win Over ASU

SEATTLE – The No. 10 Huskies took game one of the series over No. 4 Arizona State 3-1 on Thursday night. Washington improves to 35-13 on the season and 14-8 in Pac-12 play.
Gabbie Plain picked up her 18th win of the season after tossing her 16th complete-game. Plain picked up 13 strikeouts in the contest, while allowing only two hits in the fourth.

Arizona State (37-9, 18-4 Pac-12) took the lead in the fourth on an RBI double by Cydney Sanders for the 1-0 advantage.

Kelley Lynch led off the fifth for the Huskies with a double out to right field. Rylee Holtorf came up to bat and brought home pinch runner Megan Vandegrift on a single out to center. A single by Kinsey Fielder and a hit by pitch for Jenn Cummings loaded the bases with no outs. A double play left runner on second and third for Madison Huskey with hit a single through the left side to drive in both runs for the 3-1 advantage.

Plain retired the final six Arizona State batters as the Huskies took the series opener, 3-1.

The two teams meet again for game two of the series on Friday with a 5 p.m. first pitch. The game will air on Pac-12 Washington.
