Thomas Earns First Pac-12 Athlete Of The Week
May 10, 2022 | Track & Field
SEATTLE -- Sophomore Carley Thomas was named the Pac-12 Women's Track Athlete of the Week today, the first honor of her career and the third Athlete of the Week honor this season for the Husky program.
Thomas, the Sydney, Australia product, posted her best 800-meters time in two years last Friday at the Sound Running Track Meet in San Juan Capistrano, Calif. She came across the line in 2:03.58, the fastest time in the Pac-12 this season and the 14th-fastest time in the NCAA this year.
Thomas continues to get closer in range to her personal-bests from 2019 and 2020, when she was one of the best juniors in the world, making the 2019 World Championships for Australia. She suffered a broken leg in the summer of 2020 but was able to return to running by the winter and amazingly was back to run at the 2021 Pac-12 Championships. This season, she got under 2:05 for the first time in two years at the Fresno State Invite, going 2:04.49, and then broke 2:04 last Friday.
Washington heads to the Pac-12 Championships this week, hosted by Oregon at Hayward Field from Friday through Sunday, May 13-15.
