UW Fourth, Woolsey Sixth After Second Round At Goodwin
March 25, 2022 | Men's Golf
STANFORD, Calif. β Led by senior Noah Woolsey, the No. 9-ranked Washington men's golf team finished day two of the three-day Goodwin tournament at Stanford Golf Course in a tie for third place.
Β
Washington, which was 3-under Friday and is 12-under through two rounds, heads into Saturday's final round just one shot out of second place (SMU and Nevada are both 13-under) and eight strokes behind leader Stanford (20-under).
Β
"We didn't play our best today," said UW head coach Alan Murray. "It was kind of a tough day, though, overall, the scoring was better than I'd have thought. I'm proud of guys' effort. They're hitting good shots, but we probably need to make more putts.
Β
"Regardless," Murray continued, "we need to play a good round tomorrow if we're thinking of winning."
Β
Woolsey shot a 2-under 68 to finish round two 7-under for the tournament, good for a tie for sixth place, two shots behind the leaders as the tournament heads into its third and final round on Saturday. Woolsey made two birdies and 16 pars on Friday.
Β
Teddy Lin was 3-under for the round, with four birdies and one bogey, putting him 4-under for the tournament, tied for 18th place.
Β
"Noah played great today," Murray said. "Bogey-free and two under. Teddy had a great finish with birdies on two of his last three holes."
Β
Not far behind is Petr Hruby, who carded an even-par 70 (three birdies, three bogies) to keep him at 3-under through two rounds, placing him in a tie for 24th place.
Β
RJ Manke was 2-over Friday, and is 2-over for the tournament, while Taehoon Song was also 2-over on Friday, making him 3-over overall.
Β
The Huskies will tee off in the afternoon on Saturday. Full pairings will be posted on GolfStat.com (use links at top-right of this page).
Β
"We'll rest up this afternoon and we won't play until tomorrow afteroon, so they'll be able to get a bit of rest," said Murray, noting that the Huskies played a 36-hole tournament earlier this same week. "I feel good about it. I can't wait to get out there tomorrow."
