Huskies Drop Pair Of Top-10 Matches In Tempe

TEMPE, Ariz. – Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robinson picked up another marquee win at the No. 1 position to close out the day, but the Husky beach volleyball team fell in both of its top-10 match-ups today. Washington (3-5) lost a 5-0 match to No. 8 Stanford and then fell short to No. 7 Grand Canyon, 4-1, with Loreen and Robinson earning the one point at the top of the lineup.

The two matches were held at Arizona State's beach courts. Tomorrow the Huskies will head to Tucson for the Pac-12 South Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, where they will face three more top-20 opponents in a challenging stretch of matches.

UW's top duo of Robinson and Loreen improved to 5-3 on the season with a 21-18, 21-23, 15-13 win over Grand Canyon's Evans/Vastine. But the Antelopes took the remaining four courts all in straight sets.

The Huskies kept it much closer against the Cardinal, despite the 5-0 final. Two matches went to three sets: Scarlett Dahl and Kyra Petersen fell, 21-13, 18-21, 15-10, at No. 2 against Kriz/Ekstrom, and Audra Wilmes and Maeve Griffin lost a 18-21, 21-8, 15-11 match to Sharp/Harvey at No. 3. Loreen and Robinson were also close in both sets at No. 1, but dropped a 21-18, 21-18 match to Hodel/Reilly.
