Manke, Woolsey Lead UW To Another 15-Under Round At Amer Ari
February 04, 2022 | Men's Golf
WAIMEA, Hawai'i โย Led by seniors Noah Woolsey and RJ Manke, the 21st-ranked Washington men's golf team shot a 15-under 273 for the second day in a row. The Huskies head into the final round of the Amer Ari Invitational in third place, six strokes back of the lead.
ย
Manke finished his round with seven birdies, including four out of his last five holes. The only blemish on his card was a double-bogey 6 on No. 18 (Manke started on No. 8 thanks to a shotgun start). For the second day in a row, he shot a 5-under 67, putting him 10-under for the tournament, tied for third place on the individual leaderboard.
ย
Woolsey shot a 4-under 68 Friday. The senior made birdie on his first hole (also No. 8), and had collected five birdies before making his first bogey on his next-to-last hole (No. 6). Paired with his opening-round 69, he finished the day 7-under for the tournament, good for a tie for 15th place.
ย
"It was another great day," said UW head coach Alan Murray. "We got off to a pretty good start and everyone was moving along nicely, but then we had a little blip with some bogies. But after that, all our guys were really impressive on their last few holes.
ย
"RJ had another terrific round at 5-under," Murray said. "Noah had a great round at 4-under. He made bogey coming in that frustrated him a little."
ย
No. 11 Texas Tech shot a 21-under 267 for the round to take the lead, at 36-under through two rounds. No. 3 Arizona State is second, one stroke behind. Tech's Baard Skogen holds the individual lead at 13-under
ย
All but one of the seven Huskies competing at Hapuna Golf Course (two as individuals) shot even par or better. Both Petr Hruby and Teddy Lin finished their round with 3-under 69s, each scoring six birdies on the day. They're both tied for 28th overall, at 5-under.
ย
Bo Peng, appearing in his first tournament since March of 2020, shot even-par Friday. Paired with his 5-under round on Thursday, he's also in a tie for 28th alongside his two teammates.
ย
"Teddy made a couple of clutch birdies and Petr made a great birdie on his last hole with a really nice two-putt. And for Bo to grind out a level par was impressive.
ย
"I'm really proud of our guys," Murray said. "Everyone is playing well and we're six back of Tech, who had a great round. We have a chance to win tomorrow, we just need a really great round."
ย
Taehoon Song and Drew Warford both competed as individuals. Song shot an even-par 72 and is even for the tournament, while Warford was 1-over on Friday and 2-over for the two rounds.
ย
The third and final round will get underway Saturday morning with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. HT/9:30 a.m. PT.
