Washington Earns 7-0 Sweep Over Boise State
February 26, 2022 | Women's Tennis
SEATTLE, Wash. --ย Coming off a 4-0 sweep against Kansas State, the Washington women's tennis team was even more on point today, beating Boise State 7-0.ย
ย
The Huskies (9-4) looked strong from the start, winning the doubles point. Vanessa Wong and Hikaru Sato won on court one 6-3, followed by Sarah- Maude Fortin and Yolanda Lin winning 6-3 on court three.ย
ย
In singles, Wong earned win No. 107 in her career, four away from the career record, with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Boise State's Pauline Ernstberger. Fortin also played strong tennis today, getting the 6-0, 6-2 win on court two.ย
ย
On court three, Nika Zupancic didn't drop a single game, finishing 6-0, 6-0.
ย
Sato won 6-2, 6-2 on court four. In the five spot, Leung secured the 6-3, 6-2 victory. To round-out singles on court six, Lin won 6-1, 6-1. This was Lin's second appearance in the singles lineup this season.ย
ย
"We have been struggling a little bit at the bottom of our singles lineup," said head coach Robin Stephenson. "So, we felt like we needed to give someone else an opportunity and change things up a little bit. We have to figure out a way to win at the bottom of our lineup."
ย
This match concludes non-conference play for the Huskies as they get into the bulk of their Pac-12 play next week, starting with Arizona State on Friday, March 4 at 12:30 p.m. PT in Tempe, AZ.
ย
"I think the good thing about the first part of this season was that we got a lot of good matches in against really tough opponents," said Zupancic. "Even though we had some losses, these losses are going to pay off later in the season. Everyone has the right mindset going into the Pac-12 season and know what we have to do to come out strong."
