Both Husky Squads Enter Top-20 In National Rankings
January 31, 2022 | Track & Field
SEATTLE -- Both Husky track and field teams shot up into the Top-20 in the newest tabulation of the USTFCCCA's National Rating Index. The women moved up eight spots to No. 13 nationally while the men made a big jump from 37th last week to No. 20 this week.
The men's team received a trio of performances that rank in the top-15 nationally to boost their rankings. Brian Fay ran the third-fastest mile in the NCAA this season, going 3:55.14. He now ranks one spot ahead of Kieran Lumb who ran 3:55.53 earlier in the season.
Connor Jost had a big PR in the weight throw, going to 12th nationally at 70-6 1/2. And Luke Houser posted the No. 15 time in the 3,000-meters, going 7:52.84.
The women's team ranking climbed in large part from the middle distance efforts, especially the DMR, which went to No. 2 in the NCAA with a time of 11:00.83 from Madison Heisterman, Carley Thomas, Anna Gibson, and Allie Schadler.
Heisterman, Thomas, and Gibson then all came back and ran 800m times that rank in the top-25 this season, and Schadler ran the seventh-fastest mile time at 4:35.18. Thomas and Gibson both ran 2:05.40 in the 800m and Heisterman, who ranks fifth nationally in the mile, ran 2:06.49.
The first event group rankings were released today as well. The event group rankings require four competitors in one event, and then averages out those four best marks. Not surprisingly, the Huskies rank first nationally in both the men's and women's mile rankings. The women also rank second in the 800-meters event group, and seventh in the 3,000-meters.
