SEATTLE – Washington's ranked cross country teams divide ranks and look to conquer this week as the 2021 fall season gets going in earnest. The 8th-ranked Husky women will head to the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational to race this Friday morning, while the 13th-ranked men's team goes to Salem, Ore. for the Charles Bowles Invitational on Saturday morning.

After reporting to campus in early September, the Huskies ran one workout-effort competition at Magnuson Park before heading to training camp in Cle Elum, Wash. for two weeks' time. Now the Dawgs will test the training in their first real race settings.

The Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational will have a large and talented field including the likes of Florida State, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, North Carolina State, New Mexico, Princeton, the host Fighting Irish and many more. The Huskies are the only Pac-12 squad making the trip. Race times will be 7:30 a.m. (Pacific) for the Blue Division, which features the Huskies, and 9 a.m. for the Open Division.

A dozen UW women are making the trip to South Bend. Eight can run in the Blue/Gold races with the others competing in the Open Division. Huskies on the trip include Sophie Cantine, Taylor Chiotti, Camila David-Smith, Julia David-Smith, Anna Gibson, Madison Heisterman, Haley Herberg, Andrea Markezich, Sophie O'Sullivan, Allie Schadler, Naomi Smith, and Carley Thomas.

Willamette University serves as host of the Charles Bowles Invite at Bush Park. The men will race at 9:30 a.m. Pacific time.

The men will travel a smaller group comprised of Sam Affolder, Leo Daschbach, Luke Houser, Tibebu Proctor, Ryan Renken, and Joe Waskom.
