No. 3 Huskies Dismantle Dartmouth 3-0
September 10, 2021 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE -- The No. 3 Washington Huskies dominated for all 90 minutes on Friday night against Dartmouth, winning by a score of 3-0 at Husky Soccer Stadium.Β
UW seized control early in the match and dominated the first half. The Huskies maintained possession, outshot the Big Green 11-1 and had a 9-0 advantage in corner kicks.Β
On one of those nine corner kicks, UW would find the first goal of the match. Dylan Teves floated in a beautiful ball to the back post, where Gio Miglietti was waiting to drill down a powerful header to make it 1-0.Β
That would be it for the scoring in the first half, but UW would come out looking for more in the second half.Β
Chris Meyers, seeing the most minutes in his career with 49, made the most of his action. He provided a moment of brilliance in the 64th minute, as he took a loose ball on the side of the field, created space outside of the box and drilled a perfect left-footed shot into the upper left corner for the first goal of his career to give UW a 2-0 lead.Β
Meyers and his magical left foot weren't done, however. Just five minutes later, he found himself in possession of the ball in the left side of the box off of a corner kick. He drilled a low shot to the left post that got by the goalkeeper to make it a 3-0 advantage and give Meyers the brace.Β
In the net, Andrew Morrison earned the first start of his career and came away with a well-deserved clean sheet. Playing all 90 minutes, Morrison made three saves to help his team keep their third consecutive clean sheet.Β
Friday night saw the Huskies finish off a four-match homestandΒ to start the season with four straight wins. In those four matches, UW outscored its opponents 11-1 and currently has a 371 minute scoreless streak. After conceding a goal in the 4th minute of their first match, the Huskies have yet to allow a goal.
