Six Leadoff Ons Lead To 6-3 Husky Win
April 02, 2021 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #6 Washington Huskies took advantage of six leadoff batters reach base, winning 6-3 over the California Golden Bears in a non-conference contest. The Huskies put the first batter of the inning on in every inning of the game and allowed only one of Cal's leadoff batters to reach. Sis Bates and Sami Reynolds had multi-hit games.
Washington is 27-4 on the season now with one more game to play against Cal this weekend. As long as tomorrow's game is completed, this game will not count in the conference standings, going down as a non-conference game.
Washington trailed for just four batters all game long after Cal scored in the first inning. Washington had five different players record RBI: its sixth run came on a steal of home by Bates. Morganne Flores had an RBI and Baylee Klingler scored two runs, though both had their four-game home run streaks come to an end. Flores nearly went yard, hitting a long single that bounced off the wall in right-center.
In the circle, Kelley Lynch worked a strong six innings, striking out a season-high nine batters. Sarah Willis threw a spotless seventh inning to earn her first collegiate save, recording a strikeout along the way. The duo combined for just one walk and ten strikeouts in the game.
Washington's defensive abilities were on display all game as well. Reynolds and Jadelyn Allchin made multiple sliding catches all over the outfield, while Washington's infield routinely squashed out a few dangerous groundballs that looked destined for hits.
The series wraps up tomorrow at 12:00 pm as Washington and Cal face off one final time. That game will be streamed free via the Washington live stream.
