All-Around Contributions Lead To 8-0 Win
April 01, 2021 | Softball
SEATTLE – The #6 Washington Huskies scored four batters into the game and took home an 8-0 run-rule victory over the California Golden Bears in the series opener. Madison Huskey, Morganne Flores, and Baylee Klingler all homered, with Klingler's homer ending the game.
Washington is 25-4 overall and 4-2 in Pac-12 after tonight's win. The win was Washington's ninth in a row over Cal. Washington has won the opening game of each of its last five Pac-12 home series, stretching back to March of 2019.
Washington scored in four of five innings, putting 16 runners on base in the game. Klingler had two runs and three RBI in the game, with Flores and Huskey each homering and driving in two runs as well. Noelle Hee was perfect at the plate for the second game in a row, going 1-for-1 with a double and two HBPs.
Gabbie Plain started strong with a 1-2-3 first and stayed that way all game long. Plain did not allow a hit until the fourth inning, retiring seven straight after a walk in the second inning before Cal managed a single. Only two batters reached scoring position in the game, with no Cal runner advancing to third base all night long. Plain would strike out five in her sixth complete-game shutout of 2021.
Tomorrow, the Huskies host a doubleheader against Cal, with game one starting at 1:00 pm. Both of those games will be streamed free via the Washington live stream.
