RALEIGH, N.C. - Katie Rainsberger picked up right where her All-America First Team indoor season left off, as she led a group of five Huskies to strong outdoor season opening 1,500-meter times at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State. Rainsberger clocked a 4:16.87 today as the top five times in the NCAA so far this outdoor season were all run in her heat, with Rainsberger getting the No. 4 time thus far.
The senior 12-time All-American was eighth in the NCAA Indoor mile final just two weeks ago. This was her first outdoor 1,500-meters since May of 2019.
Four more Huskies raced the 1,500-meters today. Haley Herberg came through in a time of 4:21.95. Freshman Sophie O'Sullivan had her best race of the year thus far with a time of 4:22.67. Marlena Preigh stepped up from her usual 800-meters to clock a strong 4:24.10, and freshman Naomi Smith came down from her usual longer distances to get a good outdoor opener of 4:30.49.
The Raleigh Relays will wrap up for the Huskies on Saturday with some 800-meter heats starting early Pacific time tomorrow at 8:40 a.m.
