SEATTLE - Washington is now halfway through its one and only two week road trip as it goes from the beaches of L.A. to the Rockies this week for two meetings with the Colorado Buffaloes at the CU Events Center. The 10th-ranked Huskies (6-2) are looking to build on their most recent road win at UCLA against a 4-2 Colorado team looking to stay in the top half of the Pac-12 as well.
Both of this week's matches will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks Washington, and then re-aired on the national channel later on the same day. The first match will be this Friday, Feb. 19, at 12:30 p.m. Pacific time. Sunday's round two will have first serve at 2 p.m. Pacific.
Last week the Huskies had their five match win streak ended in a five setter at No. 18 UCLA on Friday, but the Huskies rebounded with a convincing 3-0 win over the Bruins in the rematch. Washington's blocking was especially strong in L.A. with 17 blocks in the first match and 12 more in the second. Washington now ranks second in the Pac-12 with 2.70 blocks per set, and also second in aces with 1.97 per set. Lauren Sanders now ranks second in the league with 1.27 blocks per set and Ella May Powell continues to lead with 10.10 assists per set The Huskies stayed at No. 10 in the rankings this week.
Colorado had matches with Stanford postponed and thus has played two fewer matches than the Huskies. The Buffs are receiving votes in the AVCA poll and won their first four matches against Oregon State and Cal, before losing twice at Washington State last week, 3-1 and 3-0. Colorado is hitting .237 as a team and ranks highly in the Pac-12 with 1.86 aces per set and 2.23 blocks per set. Senior middle Rachael Fara is leading the Pac-12 with an impressive .463 attack percentage with 2.14 kills per set. Elissa Alcantara's 2.90 kills per set are a team best, and Jenna Ewert has strong all-around numbers with 9.05 assists per set, 0.91 kills, 2.45 digs, 0.36 aces, and 1.09 blocks per set.
