LAS VEGAS – Gabbie Plain threw her second career perfect game as the #2 Washington Huskies took down Southern Utah 8-0 in the season opener. Plain retired all 15 batters she faced, recording seven strikeouts in the five-inning run-rule victory.

Gabbie Plain became just the second Husky ever to throw a perfect game in the season opener, joining Danielle Lawrie, who did so against Auburn in 2010. It was Plain's fifth no-hitter and second perfect game: she also threw a perfect game her freshman year, against Utah. Plain's last no-hitter came in the 2019 Regionals, against Mississippi State.

The leadoff batter reached in every inning for Washington. Sis Bates was a perfect 3-for-3 with a walk, her 12^th career game reaching base in every plate appearance. Baylee Klingler and Sami Reynolds each homered in the game as Washington managed four extra-base hits and drew five walks.

		SCORING
First Inning: Washington wasted no time, scoring three runs in the first inning to take the lead for good. Doubles by Bates and Kelley Lynch were big, while patience at the plate led to an RBI walk by Jadelyn Allchin. Second Inning: Back-to-back homers from Klingler and Reynolds added three more runs to the board. Third Inning: Another leadoff help the offense get started, with Taryn Atlee and Bates starting the inning on base. Reynolds' single would score Bates to make it 8-0.

Plain (5.0 IP, 0 H, 0 BB, 7 K) threw her fifth no-hitter and second perfect game. The only Husky ever with more no-hitters or perfect games in Danielle Lawrie. Reynolds (2x4, 2 R, HR, 2 RBI) now has a 34-game on-base streak, the second-longest in Washington history behind Jaime Clark's 42-game streak in 2002. Since the start of 2020, Reynolds has gone hitless five times. She has multiple hits eight times. In the first game of the season, Bates (3x3, 3 R, 2B, BB) Bates has hit .722 with 10 runs. Bates moved to ninth in Washington history in doubles, tying Casey Stangel, and 11th in runs scored, passing Kristen Rivera and Shelley Brown, today. Klingler (1x4, R, HR, 2 RBI) has an extra-base hit in her last five games stretching back to 2020 and has driven in at least one run in nine of the last ten games.

Washington will play another two games tomorrow, facing off with Southern Utah at 10:00 am and tournament host UNLV at 3:00 pm. Both those games will be shown live via the UNLV live stream.
