Scardina Earns Pac-12 Player Of The Week
February 10, 2021 | Men's Soccer
SAN FRANCISCO - After scoring a hat trick in the season opener, Nick Scardina has been named the Pac-12's Player of the Week to start 2021. Scardina is the first Husky to win Pac-12 Player of the Week since Blake Bodily did so twice last season.
A sophomore from Portland, Scardina shone in the first game of the season, scoring a hat trick against Northwest. Scardina was the first Husky since Scott Menzies in 2017 to score a hat trick and the first Husky ever to score his first three career goals via hat trick. Scardina joins Handwalla Bwana as the only Husky sophomores to score hat tricks since 2000.
Scardina is the fifth Husky to earn Pac-12 Player of the Week in the last five years. He joins Bwana, Bodily, Joey Parish, Saif Karawala, and Auden Schilder in that regard. This is the 39th Player of the Week honor in Washington history.
The Huskies began 2021 with two home wins last week, defeating Northwest 6-0 and Gonzaga 3-0. ScardinaΒ played over 50 minutes at forward in both those games, with shots in each game as well.
This week, Washington will hit the road with a game at Portland on February 14.
