Huskies Headed To National Championship Game With Win Over Georgetown

The Huskies defeated No. 3 seed Georgetown by a score of 2-1 at WakeMed Soccer Park to punch their ticket to the title game on Sunday against No. 8 Clemson.
"I'm just very proud of our guys," head coach Jamie Clark said of the match. "That's a really good Georgetown team. They were certainly good enough to move on today. We've been seizing moments lately. In soccer, if you take advantage of your moments, you're going to keep winning your games."
In the first half, both teams were ready for battle and neither side could find much inspiration on offense. After 45 minutes of play, the score was tied 0-0 and neither squad managed a shot on goal.
Lucas Meek got the party started in the 54th minute when he whipped in a ball with enough pace and spin to make its way through the box and into the back of the net.

Just three minutes later, Charlie Ostrem doubled the UW lead with a stunning right-footed strike from outside the box.

"That's just a once-in-a-lifetime goal and it just came at the right time," Ostrem said of the goal. "I'm just so happy that I can do that for the team."
In the blink of an eye, Washington flipped the match on its head and turned a defensive slugfest into a two-goal advantage in just three minutes.
"I wish I could say there's a special formula for scoring two quick goals, but we're doing the right things," Lucas Meek said of the outburst.
Holding a lead against a top-3 team was no easy task and the Hoyas put the Huskies to the test in the remaining 30-plus minutes.
Georgetown did not go down without a fight, scoring on a header in the 80th minute to get within one.
Washington would hold firm and would have to make a few more stops on the defensive end, but the Huskies stood their ground and earned the 2-1 victory.
Sunday's national championship between No. 2 Washington and No. 8 Clemson is set for an 11:00 a.m. PT start time and will be broadcast on ESPNU.
