October 06, 2021 | Women's Tennis
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Senior Vanessa Wong dropped a tough three-setter today in her opening round match at the ITA All-American Championships and will compete in the consolation draw beginning on Thursday.
Wong, ranked 14th, drew 20th-ranked Valeriya Zaleva of UCF in her main draw opener. Wong rolled to a 6-2 win in the first set by Zaleva pulled out a 6-4 second set to change the momentum and took the third set as well, 6-1.
Sophomore Sarah-Maude Fortin was scheduled to compete in the qualifying consolation draw today but continuing weather issues washed away a good part of the action for the second day in a row.
