Fortin Drops Opener At ITA All-Americans

CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Sophomore Sarah-Maude Fortin came up short in her fall season opener today against the 29th-ranked singles player in the country. Fortin was in the first round of the qualifying draw at the ITA All-American Championships in South Carolina, but was unable to get past the No. 4 seed in the draw, Ayana Akli of South Carolina, playing on home turf.
No. 29 Akli earned a 6-3, 6-0 win over 124th-ranked Fortin, who will now compete in the consolation draw starting on Tuesday.
14th-ranked Senior Vanessa Wong will be in the main draw of the tournament which begins this Wednesday.
