June 11, 2020 | Men's Soccer
SEATTLE --- Washington men's soccer defensive standout Kasey French was named the UW's male student-athlete recipient of the prestigious Tom Hansen Medal on Tuesday.
A Conference Medal is awarded annually to each member institution's outstanding senior male and female student-athlete based on the exhibition of the greatest combination of performance and achievement in scholarship, athletics and leadership. Conference medal winners have been named every year since the 1960-61 academic year.
French was a key member of Washington's backline over the last three seasons at UW. He helped anchor the Husky defense which posted 12 shutouts this past year, helping Washington to its first Pac-12 title since 2013 and a trip to the NCAA Quarterfinals. French started all 20 matches, playing the second-most minutes on the team and helped UW record a 0.66 goals against average--the ninth-best in the NCAA.
Off the pitch, French posted a 3.88 GPA while pursuing a double-major in Mathematics and Physics. Earlier this year, he became just the fourth Husky to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors, garnering third-team recognition after earning his third-straight CoSIDA First-Team Academic All-District selection. French has also been recognized three times by the Pac-12 for academic achievement including being named to the 2019 Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll.
