March 09, 2020 | Men's Basketball
SAN FRANCISCO – University of Washington freshman Isaiah Stewart picked up a pair of Pac-12 Conference honors on Monday as he was named to the All-Pac-12 First Team and the All-Pac-12 Freshman Team, the league announced. He is the second freshman under coach Hopkins to earn All-Freshman honors, joining Jaylen Nowell (2018).
Stewart's First Team All-Pac-12 honors make him the first Husky freshman to earn that recognition since Markelle Fultz in 2017. Additionally, he is the 23rd freshman overall in program history to be named to the league's All-Freshman Team. Washington has now had a first team All-Pac-12 selection for five-straight seasons.
The Rochester, N.Y. native, quickly made a name for himself this season as he has posted five 20 point/10-rebound double doubles and was the Pac-12's leading freshman scorer and rebounder as he averaged 16.6 points and 8.7 rebounds during the regular season. He recorded 13 double-doubles, which was the second-most in the league.
Stewart has started in all 31 games for the Dawgs, picked up four Pac-12 Freshman of the Week awards and was on the Wooden Award Top 25 Midseason List, the Naismith Trophy Midseason Watch List, the Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Center of the Year Top 10 list along with being selected to the NABC Division I Player of the Year watch list. He was named a preseason All-American by NBC Sports, CBS Sports and Street & Smith's.
Washington opens the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. as it faces off against Arizona at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
