McDaniels Named Pac-12 Freshman of the Week
March 09, 2020 | Men's Basketball
SEATTLE – Washington native Jaden McDaniels was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week, the league announced on Monday. He joins fellow newcomer Isaiah Stewart to earn the honor this season and it marks the first time UW has had multiple freshman of the week awards.
McDaniels was key in Washington's first sweep of the desert schools since 2011-12 this past week as he averaged 18 points and six rebounds per outing while shooting 88.9 percent from the free throw line. Playing both games off the bench, McDaniels started by scoring 16 points, pulling down six rebounds and dishing out three assists at Arizona State in UW's 90-83 victory. He also added two blocks and one steal.
The freshman followed that with 20 points, his most in a Pac-12 game this season, on 7-of-14 shooting from the field in a 69-63 win at Arizona. He recorded six rebounds, was 4-of-4 from the FT line, and swatted away three shots. McDaniels has now reached double-figures in four-straight games and averaged 16.8 points and 6.3 rebounds in that span.
Washington opens the Pac-12 Tournament this week against No. 5 seed Arizona on Wednesday at 2:30 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
