March 08, 2020 | Gymnastics
SEATTLE - Washington earned a season-high floor score of 49.600 thanks in big part to two scores of 9.950 from Maya Washington and Kristyn Hoffa. The two seniors shared the individual title on floor, but it wasn't enough to earn the win as #7 Denver scored a 196.925 beating Washington's score of 196.125. The GymDawgs finished second in the meet, above Alaska Anchorage at 193.525 and San Jose State at 193.775.
Washington started the meet on bars where Madison Copiak earned the high score for the GymDawgs with a 9.950, good for second in the meet. Evanni Roberson added a 9.900 and Geneva Thompson scored a 9.825. Talia Brovedani, who competed as an exhibition on bars against Utah and Oregon State, competed for the GymDawgs against Denver. This marked Brovedani's first competitive action for Washington where she earned a 9.775.
The GymDawgs competed on beam next, but they could not continue their recent success. Michaela Nelson scored a 9.825 and Evanni Roberson posted a 9.900 to lead Washington to a score of 48.225.
Washington was able to continue their dominant stretch on floor, however. Along with Hoffa's and Washington's 9.950, Evanni Roberson added a 9.925 and Amara Cunningham took home a 9.900. Meaghan Ruttan also scored a career-high 9.875 on floor to help the GymDawgs to their season-high floor score of 49.600.
The GymDawgs closed out their meet on vault with Geneva Thompson leading the way for the sixth meet in a row. The junior scored a 9.875 and hasn't scored under a 9.850 during that stretch. Evanni Roberson added a 9.850, Amara Cunningham had a 9.825, and Maya Washington took home a career-high 9.750 to help the GymDawgs to a 49.075 score.
Washington will be back in action at home against Seattle Pacific on Saturday. The GymDawgs will celebrate their seniors during this meet, the last home action of the season.
