Stanovsek Becomes First Husky To Win Elite 90 Award
March 20, 2020 | Track & Field, Student-Athlete Academic Services
SEATTLE - Washington senior All-American Mick Stanovsek has won one of the most prestigious honors handed out by the NCAA, as he is the first Husky in any sport to win the Elite 90 award, for the 2020 indoor track and field season. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.
The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers.
Although the NCAA track and field season was cut short right before last week's indoor championships, Stanovsek has plenty to celebrate with the Elite 90 honor. He is the first Washington student-athlete to win the award, which dates back to the 2009-10 academic year. He currently carries a 3.85 cumulative GPA majoring in Cinema & Media Studies.
Stanovsek advanced to the NCAA Indoor meet this season by virtue of running the second-fastest mile time in school history, going 3:57.88 for a new indoor personal-best. He also ran an 800-meters PR of 1:48.82 which ranks fourth in school history.
Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above who have participated in their sport for at least two years with their school. They must be an active member of the team, traveling and a designated member of the squad size at the championship. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
