ATLANTA – The #1 Washington Huskies beat the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 11-6 to make it two wins on the first day of the season. Washington jumped ahead with three runs in the first inning and never trailed in the game, with Georgia Tech unable to make it closer than a two-run game at any point.

Sis Bates and SilentRain Espinoza keyed the offense, with each recording three hits. Bates had two doubles, scoring after each, while Espinoza drove in three runs in the game. Sami Reynolds had two runs and three RBI as well.

It was a team effort for the Dawgs: six different Huskies scored in the game and six drove in runs. All but Washington's eight-spot in the batting order had at least one hit in the game. Morganne Flores doubled and scored twice, adding Washington's final insurance run in the seventh. Taryn Atlee kept her perfect start to the year going, scoring three runs.

Gabbie Plain went the distance for the Huskies in the circle. The junior got stronger as she went, striking out the side in the sixth inning and retiring eight straight at one point before three odd plays in the seventh.

In that inning, Georgia Tech loaded the bases as three consecutive batters reached without hitting a ball past the circle. Plain would recover from the bad luck and end the game with back-to-back strikeouts for the win. In all, she would strike out ten, her 15^th double-digit strikeout game.

		SCORING
First Inning: Bates started the game with a double, then came around to score on an infield single by Huskey that bounced away into centerfield. Espinoza ripped a single into center to score two more soon thereafter. Second Inning: Georgia Tech scored on an extremely close play at the plate where the runner was ruled safe after a double to the rightfield corner. Third Inning: A long flyball from Baylee Klingler allowed Flores to come in to score after the senior led the inning off with a double. Espinoza's second hit of the day brought in another run. Third Inning: Georgia Tech took advantage of a second-and-third, one-out situation, scoring another run, this time on a groundout. Fourth Inning: Atlee reached to start the inning with an infield single, eventually scoring on a groundout. Georgia Tech would answer with an RBI triple and a single after that in the bottom half made it 6-4. Sixth Inning: Flores sent a single through the left side to score Bates. Another RBI groundout by Reynolds added a run for an 8-4 lead. Seventh Inning: The Dawgs strung together some singles and worked the small game for three more runs in the final frame. Bates and Reynolds had RBI, while an error brought another run in. Georgia Tech got two back after a series of odd infield bounces to make it 11-6.

		NOTES
This was Espinoza's (3x4, 3 RBI) fifth career multi-RBI game. Bates (3x4, 2 R, 2 2B, RBI) has started this season with back-to-back multi-hit games after recording 23 such games in 2019. Bates had multiple extra-base hits for the eighth time in her career. After ending last year on a seven-game hit streak, Reynolds (2x4, 2 R, 3 RBI) has hits in her first two games this year. Atlee (2x2, 2 R) has yet to be retired this year after two games. Plain (7.0 IP, 8 H, 10 K) is now 30-1 in non-conference games in her career.
