Huskies Score Double Digits In Season Opener
February 07, 2020 | Softball
ATLANTA – The #1 Washington Huskies started the 2020 season off right, defeating the Ohio Bobcats 10-2 in six innings. Washington used a six-run third inning to take the lead and never looked back from there. Sami Reynolds, Baylee Klingler, and Kaija Gibson all had multiple RBI. Sis Bates and Jadelyn Allchin had multi-hit games.
After walking the first batter she faced in her collegiate career, starter Kelley Lynch settled into a groove. The freshman struck out the next two batters and retired eight in a row before another walk. Two doubles in the third gave Ohio two runs but that was all they could managed against Lynch. She would end the day with six strikeouts in four innings before Brooke Nelson took the circle.
While Ohio briefly held a lead, a big third inning by the Huskies put the game out of reach. Washington scored all six runs that inning with two outs, beginning with a bloop single by Reynolds. In all, the Huskies would send 12 batters to the plate in the inning, reaching base seven consecutive times with two outs.
Ohio would not have another hit after its two doubles in the third, with Washington's offense patiently awaiting another scoring opportunity. That would come in the sixth, with Klingler hitting her first Husky home run to end the game.
