CLEARWATER, Fla. – Despite trailing entering the seventh, the #1 Washington Huskies defeated the #17 Texas Tech Red Raiders 11-5 in a wild extra-inning game. Both teams held leads multiple times in the game, only to see the opposition rally back, with Washington's six-run eighth putting the game to bed. It was the sixth time this year the 10-1 Huskies have scored in double digits.

It was Megan Vandegrift who would score the run to give Washington the lead for good in the eighth when the sophomore stole third and scored on a throwing error. It was the third time in Vandegrift's four appearances this weekend that she has scored a run.

The Huskies ripped seven extra-base hits in the game, all from different players. SilentRain Espinoza and Livy Schiele drove in four runs between them and went a combined 5-for-8. Morganne Flores and Baylee Klingler also had multi-RBI performances.

Leadoff ons were what did it for Washington. Four times the Huskies put the leadoff runner on base: three times, that runner would come around to score. All five of Washington's runs in the first seven innings came after the leadoff runner reached safely.

After retiring the first eight batters she faced last night, Brooke Nelson retired the first four batters she faced in her relief appearance today. In addition to a big double at the plate, Nelson threw 3.2 scoreless innings.

Gabbie Plain was also excellent in relief as she pitched the game's final 3.1 innings, shutting out Texas Tech in that time. Only one batter managed a hit against Plain as she earned the win.

		SCORING
First Inning: The Huskies struck first. Espinoza singled up the middle to score Sami Reynolds, who had reached via a leadoff walk. Texas Tech bounced back and scored three times in the bottom half via a home run that popped up into the wind and managed to carry away. Fourth Inning: For the second time in as many at-bats, Espinoza brought a run in. Nelson scored from second after her leadoff double as Espinoza sent a double down the rightfield line inside the first-base bag. Schiele's double brought Espinoza home to tie it. Fifth Inning: A blooper to centerfield that dropped just in time for Texas Tech gave the Red Raiders the lead at 4-3. A wild pitch would make it 5-3. Sixth Inning: Jadelyn Allchin's double put her in scoring position for Schiele, who singled to center on a line to cut into the deficit. Seventh Inning: It was a leadoff hit that again got Washington's scoring going. Reynolds tripled, then would score on a grounder to tie it at 5-5. Eighth Inning: Vandegrift stole third after entering as the international tiebreaker runner on second, scoring on an overthrow. Lynch launched a no-doubt shot into the afternoon air for another run, making it 7-5, before Flores and Klingler had two-run singles.

		NOTES
Washington has scored at least five runs in an inning seven times this season. Espinoza (2x5, R, 2B, 2 RBI) extended her hitting streak to four games, hitting .429 in that time. Schiele (3x4, 2B, 2 RBI) has hit .625 with two runs, four RBI, and three walks as a starter. Nelson (3.2 IP, 2 H, 0 R) has started each of her last two appearances with at least 2.0 scoreless innings. Atlee (1x3, 2B) has four extra-base hits already this year. She had nine in all of 2019. Lynch (1x3, HR) has driven in at least one run in each of the last four games. Flores (1x5, 2 RBI) passed Taylor Van Zee for ninth in Husky history with 178 career RBI.

Washington will next head to the Mary Nutter in Cathedral City, California, with games in that tournament beginning Friday, February 21.
